Ussangoda is located in Ambalanthota is a 45 minute drive from Golden Pearl Tangalle Beach and is a designated archaeological site. Ussangoda is a nature reserve located in the southern turtle breeding zones. There are folklore tales revolving around the area-religiously rooted in unwritten history related to the King Ravana. According to Hindu puranas, Ussangoda was one of the landing strips of Ravana's Pushpaka Vimana aircraft. Ussangoda is a patch of high ground situated by the ocean and spreads over a vast area. What is unique about the area is its strong brick reddish soil color. General belief is that was part of a meteor or was hit by one due to the soils brick-like hard red quality.
